A New Hope

The first post, offically here

I'm so excited to finally have the blog up and running!  I cannot wait to share all the excitement as we work towards the release of our first game, Infinity Big Bang Robot (IBBR)!  Progress has been steady and within the coming weeks I hope to have some real gameplay footage from our alpha build.  Exciting stuff!

My hope for this blog is to share some of our learnings as an indie game company, keep folks updated on our developments, and show off events and various things our company is doing.  But more importantly, I hope to inspire others to take risks and go for their dreams by showing them exactly how I'm doing it.  Our team is part of a generation of change that seeks a new way of living outside of the normal routine.

But first, a little about me...

I like the idea of having transparency in our organization, so in the spirit of that I'd like to just give a breif background of myself.

I grew up in suburban York, PA during the 90's and graduated from West York Area High School in June of 2006.  None of those things are particularly important except that York was a pretty boring place at that time, and the video game industry was beginning to boom, so you can imagine what I spent most of my free time doing.

I started playing video games at the age of 4 or 5 when my brother left Mario paused for a quick break.  Seeing the controller as vacant, I picked it up and unknowingly took the first step in a lifelong journey towards my destiny.  I have fond memories of late nights with my brother John, my cousin Jorrie, and my best friend Kyle, playing games until the wee hours of the morning.  Often times conversations turned towards the inevitable curiosity that one day, maybe we would work together to build a game of our own.

What next?

Of course there's a lot more to my story, including music and hitchiking across the US, but I'll save those for another place and time.  For now, I'll just tell you that John and I have officially partnered to create A Game Studios.  There's 5 of us in total, including Richard and Zach in the art department, and Ryan doing the programming.  John does effects and I do a little of everything, including building this website.  We've been working on IBBR for about 5 months now, and we're quickly approaching completion of our alpha phase.  This is extremely exciting because at that point, we plan to put our game on Steam Early Access, unleashing our creation for the world to see!  Until then, it's back to the trenches, but stay tuned for a demo video!
